Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE), also known as Clear Lens Exchange (CLE), is a surgical procedure that replaces your eye’s natural lens with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) to correct refractive errors. Unlike LASIK or PRK, RLE does not involve reshaping the cornea — making it an excellent option for patients over 40 who want to reduce their dependence on reading glasses or bifocals.
RLE also prevents cataracts from developing in the future, as the natural lens (where cataracts form) is replaced.
